Natural Ingredients to Fight Acne & Boost Skin Health

honey - natural ingredients to fight acne

We know now more than ever before about the dangers of putting toxic chemicals into and onto our bodies. There’s no denying it: clean ingredients are having a moment.

The personal care industry, in particular, has embraced the clean beauty movement. And for good reason – certain chemicals commonly found in beauty products can actually exacerbate conditions like acne, rosacea, and psoriasis. Who wants that?

Luckily, there are lots of natural ingredients that can help fight acne and breakouts – some of which might even be lurking behind that box of Thin Mints in your pantry!

Natural Ingredients to Fight Acne & Boost Skin Health

Here are some natural ingredients to keep an eye out for on your next trip to Lush, Target, or even the grocery store:

  • Tea Tree Oil: While it’s not for every skin type (those with sensitive skin may want to steer clear), tea tree oil is often praised for its anti-inflammatory properties – a major concern for those battling acne.
  • Turmeric: This bright yellow spice isn’t just great for adding depth to your chicken curry – it’s been used for centuries to battle inflammation and even out skin tone.
  • Rose water: Besides smelling great, rose water is known for its cooling, soothing, and anti-aging effects. As a bonus, it also makes a great natural makeup remover!
  • Aloe: You’ve probably used aloe vera to soothe a sunburn after a long day at the beach, so it should come as no surprise that aloe can be used for all types of skin irritation, including breakouts.
  • Other natural ingredients: Rosemary extract, willow bark, coconut oil, witch hazel, lavender, and more can all help fight acne and breakouts. Check out this list for more ideas!

Clean Beauty Ingredients You May Have at Home!

If you’re fully stocked on beauty supplies but curious about how the properties of clean ingredients can help fight acne, there’s a good chance you have some more natural products right at home to experiment with. Try using these:

  • Apple cider vinegar: ACV is basically a miracle food! Try dabbing a bit on a pimple that won’t seem to go away. Its antiseptic and astringent properties help to sanitize the skin and dry up oil and pus that build up underneath.
  • Honey: Honey has been used for wound treatment for years, but did you know it can also be used in your skincare routine? The same healing properties that make it such a great disinfectant make it an excellent choice for fighting skin conditions like rosacea and acne.
  • Olive Oil. We call this the ‘OG clean beauty product’ here at Clean Rebellion. Olive oil is great for cleansing and moisturizing – the perfect natural makeup remover!
  • Oatmeal: Oatmeal soothes irritated skin and can be used all over the body. Try mixing it with some honey, apple cider vinegar, and warm water for a cheap – but super effective – DIY face mask!
  • Coffee grounds: You won’t want to use coffee grounds to fight an active breakout (they can irritate the skin), but they’re amazing for prevention! The granules in coffee grounds are wonderful for exfoliating and unclogging pores… and some people swear the caffeine helps fight wrinkles.

There are TONS of resources out there if you’re looking to take your skincare routine in a more natural direction. Make a choice and make a change today!
