Why You Should Use ‘Italy Towels’ to Exfoliate Your Skin

If you want smooth, radiant skin, then you probably know that exfoliation is a must. But, let’s face it: It can start to feel like a messy hassle that you have to remember to do if you want to avoid having rough skin.

Here’s the thing, though. Exfoliation really doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or incredibly time-consuming.

Forget the jars of oily scrubs that can leave a slippery residue on the bottom of your shower or bathtub. ‘Italy towels’ are a simple and effective way to exfoliate your body and get super smooth skin – without the hassle.

What are Italy towels?

This K-beauty staple may have an odd name, but these towels produce serious exfoliation results. Unsurprisingly, they get their name from the imported Italian fabric originally used to make them.

Clearly, the name stuck, but they’re really just exfoliating bath mitts/towels.

Italy towels should be used on clean, damp skin while bathing or showering. Keep in mind that the cloth isn’t intended to wash your skin – it’s specifically designed to exfoliate it.

To use, slide your hand into the mitt/towel and get it nice and wet. The fabric will shrink a bit when it comes in contact with water, allowing it to fit tighter against your hand.

Gently rub the towel back and forth (or in circular motions, if you prefer) against your skin. You’ll notice “residue” peeling off. This is your skin’s dead outer layer.

Gross? Maybe.

Oddly satisfying and incredibly effective? Yes!

After scrubbing, rinse and follow up with your favorite lotion or body oil to pamper your skin and keep it supple and hydrated.

How do Italy towels work?

The magic of Italy towels is the friction that builds from the special fibers used against your moist skin.

Keep in mind that adding soaps or creams will prevent the fabric from gripping against your body, so be sure to use your mitt directly against your skin.

And, as with all exfoliation methods, be careful not to overdo it. It’s recommended that you use Italy towels just once a week, as they are rather rough and your skin will be sensitive after use.

Bottom line

Italy towels are inexpensive and mess-free – except, of course, for your dead skin that sloughs off and goes down the drain!

Plus, you can use the towels over and over until they lose their coarseness, so they’re a great option if you don’t like the idea of single-use beauty trends.
